Ours only has a lock on the passenger side. The reasons I have heard are 1)old laws that stated you were not to exit the vehicle into traffic 2) the gentleman was to unlock the passenger side for the lady and she was suppose to be polite enough to open the driver door for him.
Just what I've heard.
