If I'm reading the OP's initial post correctly he's trying to remove the grommet from the truck. It'll be difficult to put brake fluid on it and not get it on the paint. If I'm correct in how I'm reading it the rule of thumb I use is just cut the old one off and replace it with a new one if new grommets are available.
