My father, who was the first man in Nashville Tennessee to work on automatic transmissions, beginning in the late 1940's, used to say "Automatic transmissions are smarter than all drivers, and most mechanics!" He was absolutely right. It's impossible to get an automatic in the wrong gear, and even the idiots who like to run full throttle in low gear will discover that there's a safety circuit built in that makes the transmission shift before the engine over-revs. A stick shift is a toy to play with- - - -use an automatic trans and cut the pockets out of your pants!
