Put a timing light on your Christmas wish list. In the meantime, borrow one.
When I rebuilt my carb, there was some hard light coloured residue restricting the jet. It needed to be removed with a welding tip cleaner as solvent and compressed air didn't remove it. The 0.057 jet was effectively reduced to probably less than 0.050. It caused a lean condition.
