Ok, here's what my buddie who is working on doing this said, I thought he already had it done but turns out not yet.
My combonation is a late '50's early '60's belhousing (for the rear mount) that was modified to allow room for the later model starter and a 153 tooth flywheel.
You could use the earlier year starter that would bolt to the bellhousing instead. With a little work, you might even be able to retain the foot switch for the starter. I will be finding out. The T-5 bolts right up to the bellhousing but this bellhousing is 1/2" narrower than the 235's, so I will be contacting a machinist, hint, hint.. to machine a spacer plate that will compensate for this and the extra little bit that one needs to remove from the front of the T-5 to work with the 235, so that it will bolt right in without any mods to the T-5. I will use the original 235 10" clutch pressure plate with the Jeep clutch disk and original throwout bearing and clutch arm.
Hope that makes sense and helps I'm having trouble visualizing it myself. I will get pictures when he gets it setup and post them if there is interest.
Either way I'd say take the S10 if you've got a place to keep it. Free is Free
I've got a 91' S10 I got for free torn down at the farm waiting for me to get a cab (54 GMC)fixed up and on it.
