Hey everyone! In the '90s my dad converted this 1968 GMC step van bread truck into what he calls the "Love Wagon" complete with a sink, 3-burner stove, and a fold away king size bed. Its tags expired in 2002 so I imagine it's been sitting for nearly as long. I've decided to get it back to its former glory. The interior will need some revamping and deep cleaning as it's been a mouse condo for two decades. Luckily the entire truck is encased in aluminum so rust is practically non-existent.
The engine is a Chevy inline 6 that I'm assuming is the 292 version, not sure yet. I haven't tried to crawl into the engine bay to get the definitive answer on that. The amazing thing about this engine is that with some fresh gas, a new battery, and coolant it was happy to run and maintain its temp. I couldn't believe how easy it was. The clutch and trans seem fine too. I was able to break one of the rear brake drums free by using engine power (other one is still locked due to the diff taking the easier route).
The issue I'm having is that I cannot for the life of me find a VIN decoder that works with the VIN on the title. One enclosed picture shows a serial number located on the outside of the engine dog house. It is totally different from the VIN on the title. I assume this is a separate number that Grumman used for its body manufacturing. Does anyone know how I can decode this VIN and figure out exactly what this thing is? Also, what's the trick to getting seized brake drums free? Run a couple screws into the threaded holes? Beat it with a mallet?
It's a 1968 GMC, VIN # PS3650PPC1704B. The serial number in the cab (as shown in the picture) is 18845KVC6712A.
Any hints and/or pointers would be really great.
*EDIT* Forgot to attach the photos. Here they are!
