What kind of lubricant are you using? The modern synthetic lubes are too slippery- - - -the brass synchronizer blocker ring can't get enough traction on the 2nd. gear to slow down the counter gear and prevent clashing. Drain the transmission, flush it by filling with a a solvent such as Mineral Spirits or Diesel fuel and idling the engine with the transmission in neutral, drain and refill with 90 weight mineral oil- - - -not multi-grade synthetic lube. If the gears still clash, you've got a worn out synchronizer.
