My father used to have about a 30 minute lecture for the students in his auto mechanics class about the right way to convert a column shift vehicle to a floor shift. Since he considered the conversion shifter to be a toy for the driver to play with, he recommended that the kids install an automatic transmission and cut the pockets out of their pants!
