Dexstar 64 Iwill tell you what I know about Crummie. Had a forestry products catalog from Bailey's in Ca. The main dog there told about how they called the carryall the crew rode to the woods in was called a Crummie. This was because they would eat in the 'Crummie at noon and of course it would get "Crummie from the food ! Bill Bailey I think , good supplier !!
To go along with that story, "Crummie" was a common name for the Caboose on a train. I was told many years ago by a retired Southern Pacific engineer that the title came from the less-than-comfortable living conditions the caboose afforded the conductor and brakemen.
