I don't know that transmission but you would do well to find the ratios for all 5 gears. Unless you already have a 2-speed axle there may be some uncomfortably wide jumps between gears, often between 2nd and third, fourth being direct. Somebody who's more familiar with Spicers will know. What I know is that the first digit in the model number usually indicates the torque rating. So you would find an 8000 series behind a big 855 Cummins like a 335 or 350 and a 6 series behind a 4-71 or maybe 6-71 Detroit. I have seen the 5 series in dump trucks powered by a 534 gasser and backed by a, say, 5831A Spicer brownie.
