Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,805 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,805 | Ed, it's more likely what you saw was a "Gyro-Matic"- - - -a 2-speed manual transmission used by Dodge with an electric shift overdrive that gave the vehicle 4 forward speeds if the driver used a creative shifting technique with the kickdown switch. Chrysler ran the same basic transmission and called it an "M-6". The transmission had low and high manual shifter positions, and used an electric overdrive similar to the Borg-Warner system to give each range two speeds. It also had a fluid drive coupled to a manual clutch that would allow the engine to idle in gear and be driven like an automatic in traffic.
