Thanks, guys. The voltage regulator is one thing I've never changed, so that's a good point. The dimmer switch has been, but I've had my doubts as to whether I've got it wired correctly (I've got a brighter light pointing at the road when it's dim, but the lights look dimmer to me when they're on high beam), so that's doable. I rebuilt the generator a couple of years ago, but now that i think of it i haven't oiled it in quite a while. Thanks again for these suggestion, guys.
