Today, I removed one of the hex head bolts from the pushrod cover to see what was residing behind it. Much to my surprise it was an internal twisted tooth lock washer! IMHO, that's a guarantee to weep oil in that application.
I also spoke to an old timer at a Chevrolet dealership. He was familiar with the 'Stovebolts' for the pushrod cover. His recommendation was to find large slotted machine screws w/o a flat washer. He also recommend a little RTV to seal up the screw heads.
Anyone else want to chime in with a recommendation? I'm sure there are many ways to skin this cat........
