One my my past jobs I was on an abatement team, usually find more contamination behind the paper and adjacent surfaces than whats exposed.
If its minor surface mildew try your favorite wipe/cleaner disinfectant. You might have to treat the whole area.
Sounds like discoloration is a minor concern if its original?
