I used a penetrating epoxy to seal the wood. It’s like water...soaks into the wood.... It does a good job of encapsulating the fibers. It’s flexible so it won’t crack. Unfortunately it needs to be covered over because of a UV problem. I used a flat black enamel. Worked out great... actually, too nice....
