The screws are staked in place so they can be a bit of a bear to get out sometimes. I don't have an oxy/acetylene torch so I do the above. I generally use a really really long screwdriver, 2 foot plus, that has a hex shaft. I attach a 12 inch adjustable wrench and have my son push and twist on the screw driver while I apply additional leverage with the adjustable wrench. Tighten just a bit to get the screw to move a bit, then loosen.
