I believe in the old carpenter's adage- - - - -"Measure twice- - - -cut once!" Assuming anything where parts locations are concerned is pretty much a recipe for disaster. That's why the average custom engine buildup I do involves assembling the engine and measuring tolerances and the location of non-standard parts multiple times. Body work doesn't involve hair-splitting dimensions like engine building, but obvious errors in the location of something like wheel position in a fender well stand out from across a parking lot!
