"Break-in" beyond the first 100 miles and maybe 10 full throttle accelerations in high gear to seat the piston rings is a myth. The machining procedures and quality control on parts made in the past 50 years or so are far more accurate than the engines we tinker with were when they were brand new. Drive that engine a couple of thousand miles on the oil that's in it now, and start changing the oil and filter at whatever interval you choose- - - -the engine won't care, and it will probably outlast a brand new one from the 1950's.
