I had a bench seat for my '56 shipped cross-country via greyhound and it was fine (not too expensive either). Of course it is hard to hurt a seat that needs to be reupholstered... I don't think I would ship anything fragile in the hold of a bus, although I am not sure why I think package handlers heaving boxes into the back of a trailer truck or step-van would be any better...
