You need to go to the book store and look at the automotive books, there have been many books on the small block chevy and parts interchange. The other thing to remember is that all pre 86 engines looked similar and it's easy to make a 1973 350 look like a 1958 283, most people can't tell the diffrence. The best advice I can give you is build the biggest engine you can afford, the power comes easier.
