Hey everyone! I am still rather new to the forum, and I have a 1951 GMC which I bought back in April of 2020. I bought it from a guy who told me it was a 1951 GMC 1 ton truck. It has a dump bed. It has the 137" wheel base. I have another post in the ads regarding its parking brake: it has the drums on the drive shaft. According to what I have found, this was only placed on 1 1/2 ton and the 2 ton trucks. The engine is supposedly a 235 inline 6. Looking at the serial number information on the forum and other websites, I am getting totally confused. The serial number is 281-22-P-1819. From what I can decipher so far is that it was made in Pontiac and 1819 is the production number.

My question is does anyone know how to make sense of it? I need to know for various reasons, but specifically for parts. Do I have a 1 ton, 1 1/2 ton, or a 2 ton??? The forum has information talking about 3100, 3600, etc. I have no idea what I have! Help!!!
Mike

Thanks,
Mike
