Use a bright light and a mirror to look at the camshaft lobe for the fuel pump as you turn the engine over slowly. When the cam lobe is at its lowest point, the fuel pump housing will almost, but not quite, fit flush against the engine block. There will be just a little spring tension on the lever arm all the time. IIf the lobe is at its high point, there will be a LOT of pressure against the lever arm.
