The reason for the four jack stands is to remove any spring or tire deflection which can happen if weight is added during the build. Bolting in just a bare cross member shouldn't cause a problem. We build frames/chassis from scratch so set up the ifs where the lower control arm (or A-frame) is parallel to the floor with ALL the weight on the vehicle. This along with correct Ackerman, anti-dive angle,correct caster-camber-toe in makes a good driving ride. If you chose the ifs with the adjustable coil over springs-shocks then you have some snudge room when completed.
