The engine in my 67 C10 is giving me fits. It started about 2 weeks ago the day after putting some fuel in the tank. Was letting it run while hooking a trailer up. It went from purring like a kitten to shaking like a hula dancer & dying in a matter of seconds. I suspected bad gas but a friend of mine who knows more than me didn’t think so. The next morning I purchased plugs, points & condenser and installed them. Set the dwell at 31, timing @4 deg btdc and the rpm at 550. Seemed to fix it ran as good or better than before. Did all this on the afternoon so didn’t drive it but a short distance. The next morning it was back to not wanting to run. Today I was able to find a cap, rotor & plugwires local & installed them. Had the truck running great again. Left it running for about 10-15 minutes while I put away tools. In that period of time it was back to running bad. If I push the choke in much past 1/2 way it sputters, backfires and dies. Does this sound like fuel or carb problem or is there something else I’m missing?
