3M weatherstrip adhesive is essentially contact cement dyed black. It will hold the foam in place until about a week past forever, but if you ever have to remove, you'd better be prepared to repaint. It is by far the best thing to use, however. I'm replacing some I put on about 38 years ago...actual GM made weatherstrip (part number 3986023). That's why I asked what people were using today. The D shaped stuff in theory sounds ok but I haven't tried it.
