My Truck is 1946 with original 228. The truck was bought 10 years ago from original owner with ~27000 miles. Just used on a potato farm here in northern Maine. I recently rebuilt a 270 from 1946 and will be installing when the weather gets a little warmer. I will pickle the 228 and keep it with the truck. I'll take a look tomorrow for the engine serial number, I know it starts with 228xxxx.
When I received the Hemmings today and look at the cover "special Section" on "Chevrolet Truck Milestones" I was looking forward to read it. I was very disappointed Hemmings did not say one word regarding 1939 to 1946 trucks as though they don't exist. I'm partial to them, I have four, all GMC's.
