I'm not sure 20w50 would necessarily be too thick in the summer. We need to remember that oil thins as it warms up so the 50 hot may be thinner than the 20 cold. I don't think I'd use it in the winter. Having said that I drive both of my vehicles year around and 40 isn't that much thinner than 50. 
Save a life, adopt a senior shelter pet. The three main causes of blindness: Cataracts, Politics, Religion. Name your dog Naked so you can walk Naked in the park.
