Getting ready to replace king pins in a ‘53 3100 and found that the top has no dust cover and the housing has been “pinged”. Would this indicate the king pins have been previously replaced and the top cover left off or was this a factory practice? It seems the pins will need to be knocked out from the top to the bottom but that will require the removal of the hub. Has anyone encountered this problem before and, if so, any suggestions? My last dealings with king pins was about 60 years ago on grandpa’s farm and then I was just a gofer and a watcher.
