A 1952 235 would be a low-pressure engine with spray oiling, a slightly upsized 216. 235's from 1954 and early 55 models have the same high-mount water pump as the 216 your truck was born with, and will be an almost direct bolt-in swap. The later model engines with the low mount water pump can be modified to accept the 216-style water pump when they're installed in trucks older than a 55 second series truck. That solves the "too long" problem nicely.
