If wheel bearings were that flimsy, they wouldn't have lasted a week, bouncing around on dirt or gravel roads, doing farm stuff. Back when these trucks were new, they worked for a living. The "Cowboy Cadillac" pickup didn't come into being until the 1990's or so.
