Paranoia creeps in. The first clip ( back in the eighties ) was done in one weekend. The first day it was in. The second day, one side was cut to correct the diamond. That one I only measured ten times. That's why this time I measured 15 times. ; )
I really need to take some pics. I made a similar jig to yours and others on the web. Only my long center member went high, on top of the cross pieces. My subframe was leveled by a 1" square tubing welded both before and after the "A" arms. I then found I could center and shim / level the clip and clamp it to the long jig member. This way the spindle centers will end up 1" higher than where the stock ones sat. Which is what I wanted. No radical lowering. I'm more about comfort than stance these days.
This jig stays in place until at least three sides of the clip has been boxed. Heck, I might still leave the jig in place and flip the assembly with the 6 ton overhead to box up the bottom. This time around I will have some real pretty welds on the bottom ( as compared to the first clip I did. They were strong, just ugly!)
Got me a nice TPI out of an '86 'vette with a 700R4. I like those TPI's! Last one I had lasted 250,000 miles with no major repairs. Water pumps, alternators, etc, but no major engine work. The only reason I stopped driving it was because a guy in a Dodge figured he could beat a red and tagged my right quarter. I sold it on eBay a few years back. The new owner drove it from Southern California to Montana, called me when he got home for clarification on the exact mileage. He couldn't believe it 'cause it ran so well. Yup, I like those Tuned Ports!
