Seems like you should have a mechanical gauge on a 49? If so, then you are going rogue and the gauge is not stock. If so this would work with no fuss on any motor in the galaxy.
Its a stock gauge. Some gmc’s had electric gauges from what I have read. All chevys had the capillary tube type senders.
