My 38 Chevrolet 1.5 ton had its original 12' bed replaced many years ago by a 14' monstrosity off of a newer Ford truck. I've been trying to find details on how to recreate the original bed but I have not been able to find much. Last week I looked at a 39 GMC 2 ton that had a bed totally constructed of wood. The entire frame, crossmembers, everything was wood. The only metal on this bed was a 4" strip of metal around the edge. Also the corners were rounded not square.
My question is, does anyone know if this is a typical bed for the GM products of this period? I was thinking of duplicating this for my 38 if I can find something similar for the metal edge.
