Yes I actually meant a 261 block. Since I purchased the block in Alberta and live in BC I will have to wait until I get delivered to see if there are any other numbers.

I am brand new to this forum and brand new to rebuilding. I have a 1950 3100 with a 1956 235 engine with a 4 speed manual with a stock 10 bolt rear end.My plan is to use my 1956 235 crank, and other items including the head (high compression) 3836848 head and get the steam holes drilled in. I have ordered a water pump adapter , a water pump ,oil pump , fuel pump gasket set, neoprene crank gasket and assuming it has hydraulic lifters (replace my 235 ones with new ones and probably the push rods.

I will get the machine shop to install bolt in crank snout.

I will keep stock carter one barrel carb and try to figure out the T5 transmission in place of my 4 speed , get a 55-60 rear end and I guess sort everything out one step at a time as io figure it to be a three year project..

Once I confirm this is a 261 my question would be what cam to use a 1961 Pontiac 261 cam?
