Thanks guys. I was able to press the button and get the shaft out easily. My issue is that I need to remove the switch itself and the threaded nut that holds the switch to the dash is frozen. You suppose to be able to take a flat head screwdriver and unscrew the retaining nut easily, but that's not the case here.
