Hi everyone!
New member but long time owner of AD trucks. My first truck was a 1951 GMC 1/2 ton that my uncle had given to our farm in the early sixties, after working it in his feed and grain business. My dad worked the truck a few more years on the farm, hauling feed, tractor tires, and even water during dry years for our livestock and turkey flocks. We were turkey farmers... Dad parked the Jimmy as he thought it was truly worn out by now, bed rusted off, holes in floorboards, bumble bee nest in the seat, which made for some exciting drives. I was 13 and saw the inner beauty of that truck, and honestly, there wasn't much beauty outward. I made my money mowing yards, and spending it at the local salvage yard pulling parts and hauling them home on my bicycle, installing and tinkering on the truck. I bought a battery at the local Western Auto store and hauled it home in the basket of my 26"bike. Got it running and drove the rock roads around the farm and to my friends house. Had a great time. Fast forward 28 years, now living in Arizona, my 17 year old son would like to buy an old Chevy truck. I was not hard to talk into that! We bought a 1951 Chevy 3100 and he and I restored it to a daily driver for him as a senior in high school, till the rear end gave up the ghost. It sat at the house from 1995 till this spring. Now, my grandson, (his son) and I shall restore again what has become a family treasure. Well, some of the family are not as convinced of the treasure status as we are... Thanks for the forum and I am looking forward to reading and gaining a little knowledge from the members.
