Chad, welcome to the site. Do a search in the forums and you will find this topic has been discussed in detail. I put a 68 Camaro rear steer clip under my 39 and upgraded to disc brakes with dropped spindles which lowered the truck 7 inches up front. As you mentioned there are plenty of routes you can take, Camaro,mustang 2,stock axle, etc it all comes down to your tastes, skills, and what effects me most, budget.
