I have a '52 1/2 ton panel with a 350/350 combo. The speedometer worked then the needle fell off. (I'm not sure how accurate it was.) For some reason the ammeter needle moves but I don't know if it's working right. None of the other gauges work. I purchased a set of Woodward gauges from New Vintage. I purchased a Hall Effect Speed sensor but can't seem to get any pulses from it (either in the transmission or spinning with a drill so I'm assuming it's faulty and will look into another one.) The speed sensor I got had a round shaft with a tab on it. The transmission has a squared, female receptacle so I filed down the shaft on the sender (supposedly for a TH350) and was able to get it into the transmission. The original speedometer cable had been used. My questions are: Is the 'bullet' (the gear and gear housing) the same on GM automatics and standard transmissions? Would the bullet have been changed to allow the original cable to connect with the TH350? (I don't have any history on the transmission i.e.year or application.) Thanks in advance!
