hi Jim,
a #57 Ba9S mini bayonet bulb should be about 1/4 Amp,
and will likely be a bit brighter than it's equivalent 6V counterpart, the #55
if you want a dimmer bulb you could try a #53

when going to 12V, the equivalent bulb are historically listed as:
#57 12V 3.4W close enough to #55 6V 2.9W
#53 12V 2W close enough to #51 6V 1.5W

6V Ba9S mini bayonet base:
cluster and ignition sw. 2 candle power #55 ~2.9W
high beam indicator 1 candle power #51 ~1.5W

it's important to use the #51 for the high beam indicator
A 55 is a bit too hot for such a small space and the color plastic dot will burn and melt
