Thanks for the response Tim. I guess I should have properly introduced myself. I am the proud owner of a 1954 3100 pickup w/Hydra-Matic that I purchased in 1976. I am retired now and I am finally ready to give this sweet truck the attention she deserves. I had visited the TechTips section "The Great Oil Filter Debate" along with the forums as well and they all have a wealth of information concerning Canister Type Oil Filters. I also had visited your websites in my search for information for the 54' and you have provided a wealth of information that has been extremely helpful in my research. You have also provided a wealth of information in the forums sections on this subject. This is how I figured out that what I have in hand is the SC-655 and what would be correct for my year model truck is the SC-653. (I could not find a SC-653 in my search efforts.) What I have is the S-6 Later Style shown in the photos and the one I have is apparently from a Tri-five passenger vehicle 235 6cyl. The correct filter for my truck is shown in Image #32 TechTips which I later found out has a longer/taller bracket. It appears, from all I have been able to gather, is that it should work as long as the hoses are long enough and it bolts up correctly. I did notice at the bottom of the TechTip is that Patrick has an e-mail address for questions so I will try that.
Thanks again for making this journey/adventure easier by sharing your plethora of information on 1954 Advance Design Trucks.
