You sound like me. I got my first old truck in 77. It was a 1963 C10, longbed fleetside. I had to sell it in 87.
Wife got tire of listening to me lament the loss of that old truck, told me to buy another one. So 18 years after selling the 63, I found my 62, or actually, 2 1962's. I found the white Stepside first, but it had no title or running gear. While searching for parts, I found the red fleetside. It had a title and I could drive it home.
I always wanted the short bed stepside, so I combined the two and gifted the remains of the white one to a friend who was working on a 63 longbed.
Keep looking and you'll find the right truck when it's time. There are plenty of them still out there.
