Good score on the truck and welcome to the Bolt. If it’s Canadian truck, the serial should start with a 4 if it’s a 44. Canadian trucks (& cars) have the first number of the VIN as the year, followed by the model. I also would be surprised if it was a ‘44. I have read/heard the same information you have. They did stop making trucks for civilians. This might be your loophole!
Eg- my 51 1 ton VIN reads : 19434xxxxx- 1=51, 94=GMC 1 ton, 34=pickup delivery.
The VIN will help you.
If it’s a GMC, it likely has a Chevrolet engine. This was a Canadian GMC thing. I can’t be 100% certain about 41-46, but the AD (47-53) trucks do.
Badging may be different too.
AD Canadian trucks are 1300/9300 Chev/GMC 1/2 tons
1420/9420- Chev/GMC 3/4 tons
1430/9430- Chev/GMC 1 tons.
