I guess my point is, in 1954 the bellhousing mounts changed to improve on engine rotational force, not vertical force.
The same manual transmissions were used as in 53 and earlier, but now with no crossmember or trans mount.
I believe Chev decided the up and down force from the torque tube was not enough to continue with the crossmember and mount.
Once I realized this many years ago I stopped worrying about a bad trans mount and would leave a bad mount off completely on customers trucks.
