There is no cardboard liner that goes behind the seat. If you still have the gas tank behind your seat, about the best you can do is apply the sound barrier/dampener under it and behind it. That's what I opted to to. Seems to help with the sound. If you also apply it the inside of the doors, under your seat, under the floor mat and the underside of your roof, will notice a big difference. Of course the headliner needs to be out to do that.
