I suggest dropping the oil pan. Sludge and crap happens. Clean out any sludge in the pan or in the bottom of the engine.
Use a little mirror and a flashlight to look above and around components and clean as necessary, especially the oil pump intake.
Then, squirt some new oil over EVERYTHING and let it soak for a while (overnight). Are there grease cups anywhere (water pump or distributor)? Dig out the old grease and put new stuff in.
If the top end has been oiled, then turn the engine over by hand to make sure it turns okay. If you don't have a hand crank, put the tranny in gear and rock the truck while someone is watching the engine.
Don't forget to put the oil pan back on and fill with new oil before cranking it over using the starter.
