I bought my ‘49 Chevy 3600 a couple of months ago. It was a long time Kansas farm truck with 70 years of grease and dirt caked on everything. Like most old farm trucks, when the wood bed rotted out, they just welded a sheet of steel on top of it. So after rebuilding all the brake components, I went after the bed...had to cut all the bolts (none would turn!), new oak, saved the metal that could be saved, beat and body-worked the rest, am using new stainless bed strips and bolts. Different approach, start at the rear bumper and work my way forward.
