Be carefull removing the needle; I have a 56 with the same type speedo head and I was unable to remove mine. I slowly put more and more force on it until the shaft finally broke and I had to replace the whole speedometer unit. You can with care pretty much completely take apart the unit to clean the speedometer magnet and cup ( which was what mine needed to work again) without removing the needle, but you have to be very careful as all the parts are very delicate, especially the spring inside.
