Hey Guys,
Got a quick question for everyone, but first the specifics.... I'm working on a 1953 Chevy 3100. I'm trying to install a new replacement gas tank into the original location behind the seat. I'm also trying to switch from connecting the fuel line from the bottom to the top of the tank.
My problem is that when I set the tank in place, the replacement straps were about 1/2" - 3/4" too short to allow for the nut to thread onto the fixed bolt. I tried to move the tank around to see if that would help, but it did not. I'm wondering if I've put the anti-squeak pads on incorrectly and if they could be the cause of the straps not fitting correctly? The factory assembly manual wasn't exactly clear on the placement of the pads. It shows the pads between the tank and the bracket that the bolt inserts into, but I can't tell if the pad is supposed to go under the tank, too. Currently, I have the pads under the tank and between the tank and bracket. Is this wrong? If so, where exactly should the pads go. At this time, there are no fuel lines around the bottom of the tank to make it not fit. BTW, these are the tar paper pads. At this point, I'm kinda frustrated and looking for some advice.
Thanks,
