I used to think that "slamming" a pickup truck was counterproductive to it's intended mission, then I traded for a slammed truck. My how the worm has turned...
I now see all the hard work, engineering, research & design and cost put into a vehicle that's soul purpose is to please it's owner/builder.
I have a 49 AD thats still majority stock and enjoy it for what it is and I work it as a truck. I believe the front bumper is 13" off the ground. As long as I have it it will retain it's OEM characteristics. I enjoy everything about it as it takes me back to the 40's where one had to know how to operate a vehicle to drive it.
I have another 49 AD that someone else lowered via the kits and design thinking of the 80's (A guesstimate) and it is also a joy to drive. It has a much later model drivetain and alot more performance. The front bumper is between 5"- 6" off the ground so I have to be more careful negotiating speed bumps, pot holes and other obstructions on the road but I'm finding getting in and out of it is a whole lot easier than the stock AD. And it gets alot more thumbs up too. . It's for fun and a very lite work.
The look is growing on me. So much so that I'm exploring new options to improve it's ride and retain it's low stance.
