6 degrees is needed when converting to power steering with a smallblock swap. I believe the reason is due to the considerably lighter engine weight not compressing the leaf springs as much as the heavier stock inline six cylinder. Could be that it changes the geometry.
Without the extra castor, there is no return-to-straight-ahead action when coming out of a turn.
Any time you remove the U-bolts, it is advisable to replace them with new ones. I had some longer ones made by a local spring shop. I brought my old ones to them and asked them to make some new ones 1/2 inch longer. They made them while I waited. About 15 minutes.
